Add and assign a phone number

Get a phone number for your agent, either by buying one through the platform or by connecting one you already own.

Buy a number

Buying a number is available to the workspace owner, and isn't available during the free trial. If you're on a trial or aren't the owner, connect your own number instead.

1. Go to Phone Numbers and click Buy a Number.
2. Choose the Country — the United States, Canada, Australia or the United Kingdom. UK numbers are mobile; the others are local. Toll-free numbers aren't available.
3. Narrow the search with State, Area Code or Number Pattern if you want, then click Search Numbers.
4. Each result shows its region and whether it supports voice, SMS and MMS. Click Purchase on the one you want, or Claim Free if your plan includes free numbers, and complete checkout.

Connect a number you already own

1. On Phone Numbers, choose the bring-your-own option.

2. Pick your Provider:

   • Twilio — enter your Account SID and Auth Token.
   • Telnyx — enter your Telnyx API key and confirm the number is active in your Telnyx account.
   • Custom SIP - Direct — enter your SIP address, plus a username and password if your setup needs them, and confirm you've added the host SIP URI at your provider.

3. Click Connect Number.

Assign a number to an agent

1. On Phone Numbers, open the number's ⋯ menu and click Configure.
2. Open Handle Calls and pick the agent under Choose an AI Agent. The list shows agents — search by the name of the agent you want.
3. Click Save Configuration.

If saving fails with an error, contact support rather than buying another number — the existing one can be fixed.

Release a number

1. Open ⋯ → Configure → Remove Agent and save.
2. Open ⋯ → Release Number and confirm.

A number can't be released while an agent is still assigned to it. A purchased number stays active until the end of its current billing period.
